Not Fungible Tokens

Buying the original of a traditional painting has always been relatively simple. One just had to  buy it from a certified seller, such as a famous auction house or gallery, or check the authenticity of the signature.
Buying the original of a digital painting, on the other hand, had always been impossible. The images can be downloaded, reproduced, stolen with ease. And even when they are legally purchased, it is difficult to know how many other people have an identical copy, because a typical feature of digital works is their infinite reproducibility. Paradoxically, every copy of a digital work is an original from the point of view of quality.
All this has been revolutionized by the birth of blockchain technology in the field of cryptoart.
Without going into the technical details we come to the conclusion: today you can buy the original of a digital work, which is equivalent to saying: buying an NFT.  By buying an NFT of a certain work that we love, you not only acquire the work, but the right of ownership over it. This means that the author of the work, while remaining the "moral" owner and being able to exhibit the work in personal exhibitions, loses all other rights on the sold work. He can no longer either sell or use it. All these rights pass into the hands of the new exclusive owner who can decide to keep the work for himself as a collector or to profit from it, obtaining derivative products or reselling the work itself.
This is why the prices for buying a NFT are quite high.
